Choose your size with more confidence

First and foremost, we would like to clarify that we do not make custom pieces. Our creations are made according to standardized sizes, designed to suit the widest range of people.

When choosing your size, we recommend that you refer primarily to the "approximate length" section, indicated in centimeters. This corresponds to the measurement taken from the top of the shoulder to the bottom of the abaya (in the center of the garment).

The "recommended size" section is given for informational purposes only. Indeed, several factors can influence the choice of size, such as body shape, posture, the way the abaya is worn, or the desired look. Two women of the same height may therefore not choose the same length.

If in doubt, the most reliable method is to measure an abaya whose drape you already like, then compare this measurement to the "approximate length" column in our size guide.

Also note that some of our abayas and capes have extra length on the sides due to their cut. As indicated above, the size indicated always corresponds to the length measured from the shoulder to the bottom of the garment, in the center of the abaya. We invite you to take these specificities into consideration when choosing your size.

Advice on choosing your abaya size

Emirati sizes correspond to the garment length, not its width. Our cuts are intentionally loose, so they fit all body types. However, we recommend choosing your size based on your height and body shape. For example, two women of the same height may not necessarily wear the same length. A slender figure will naturally take up less space in the garment, which can make the abaya appear longer, while a more generous figure may require a slightly longer length to achieve the same look. This difference is subtle but useful to consider for a more appropriate choice.

We also recommend taking into account how you prefer to wear the abaya (whether you prefer it to cover your feet, touch the ground, or stop below the ankles), as well as the type of shoes you usually wear.

Advice on choosing your cape size

The Emirati sizing guide applies only to our abayas, unless otherwise indicated on the product page. When the sizes displayed on our website are presented in Emirati sizes, the selection principle remains the same: choose your size as you would for an abaya.

Regarding our capes, as they are worn directly on the head, the measurement to take into account differs slightly. It is no longer a length measured from the shoulders to the feet, but from the top of the head to the feet.

Our capes are generally offered in increments of 5 cm (150 cm, 155 cm, 160 cm, 165 cm, etc.). However, the selection system remains the same: if you are 165 cm tall, your size choice will mainly depend on the desired look and drape.

Care tips

Al Zawja Modesty

Each piece is crafted with care, with the aim of offering you the best possible quality. However, even the most beautiful fabrics require special attention. Proper care is essential to permanently preserve the appearance, fit, and quality of your garments.

A thread is sticking out of my garment

It is perfectly normal for one or more threads to slightly protrude from some parts. This does not mean that the garment is defective and does not affect its quality or durability in any way.

During manufacturing, some sewing threads may remain visible after finishing. If this occurs, simply trim them carefully with a small pair of scissors, without pulling on them.

At Al Zawja Modesty, every item is inspected before shipping, but the occasional presence of a visible thread remains a common characteristic in the textile world.

How and with what should I wash my clothes?

To preserve the quality, color, and fit of your garments for as long as possible, we recommend a delicate wash at a maximum of 30 °C, preferably on a gentle cycle.

We advise you to use a detergent specifically designed for black or dark clothing to preserve the intensity of the color and limit the fabric from fading over washes. For optimal care, wash your clothes with similar colors and turn them inside out before washing to better protect the fabric. With proper care, your garments will retain their elegance, fit, and quality for a long time.

Proper care after washing

After washing, we recommend immediately reshaping your garment and letting it air dry on a hanger. Avoid using a tumble dryer as much as possible, as this can damage the fibers and reduce the lifespan of the fabric. Proper drying helps to maintain the quality and drape of your pieces for a long time.

How do I put on and take off my garment?

We know that after a long day, when you've been wearing a khimar or cape for several hours, one desire often crosses your mind: to quickly take it off.

However, it is important to take a few moments to remove your garment gently. Pulling abruptly on the fabric, removing the garment without untying knots, or making overly quick movements can, in the long run, weaken the seams, deform certain parts of the garment, or accelerate its wear. To durably preserve the quality and finishes of your pieces, we recommend that you always undo the fastenings before removing your garment, and then hang it on a hanger or prepare it for washing if necessary. A few simple steps are enough to extend the lifespan of your garments and maintain their elegance over time.

Press studs and zipper

It is imperative never to pull on snap fasteners or open zippers by tugging on the garment. Always take the time to snap and unsnap buttons carefully and gently, even if they may sometimes feel firm. Similarly, open and close zippers slowly and correctly to ensure the long-term preservation of your garment.

Steam or iron?

Al Zawja Modesty

We advise you to never iron your clothes with an iron, or only occasionally, unless you give it to a qualified dry cleaner.

Risk: making a hole in the garment, leaving iron marks, damaging the fabric... I strongly advise you to invest in a clothes steamer; there are several types at different prices and with different autonomies. Indeed, it removes wrinkles by diffusing heat through steam (that's the key difference), which preserves the garment and eliminates the risk of damaging it.
